Showalter: Unlikely Teen Idol

I went to a teen marketing conference yesterday and among the microtrends listed by Catherine Stellin, Vice President Marketing & Trends at Youth Intelligence, "Michael Showalter" was mentioned between "apache dancing" and "fruit sushi."

New tagline for you -
Krucoff: giving teens what they want.

I get the Youth Intelligence newsletter and I think its ideas are creatively and morally bankrupt. It's a display of youth marketing paint-by-numbers style.

Which is fine, as long as the hidden conceit is that all youth products should be vivid brushstrokes painted on a canvas of ennui. I don't think marketers really know how to engage youthful, dynamic minds. Modern youth trends lack substance. This is why young adults increasingly need money, therapy, and strong liquor.

I had an answer to this, but I just spilled my Wild Turkey and I forgot while I was cleaning it up.
